Female Genital Mutilation — Not “Female Circumcision”

Female Genital Mutilation — Not “Female Circumcision”

Enough falsifying the truth. Enough beautifying what is inherently ugly. What is falsely called “female circumcision” is neither a social ritual, nor an innocent tradition, nor even a religious interpretation… it is, without any ambiguity, a deliberate act of female genital mutilation.

We are not speaking about a cultural difference to be respected, but about a blatant violation of a young girl’s body—one who has no right to refuse, nor even the capacity to understand what is being done to her. What kind of culture begins a girl’s life with a deep wound in both her body and her soul? And what kind of society hides behind the veil of “tradition” to justify such cruelty?

A Crime Committed in the Name of Purity

In the name of “chastity,” blood is shed. In the name of “honor,” parts of a girl’s body are cut away. And in the name of “religion”—a religion that is innocent of such acts—one of the most brutal forms of physical and psychological violence is carried out.

Let us be clear: there is no authentic religious text that mandates this practice, and there is not a single medical justification for it. What exists is merely a legacy of ignorance, reproduced generation after generation, as if pain could somehow be transformed into virtue.

Medicine Speaks Clearly: This Is Mutilation

From a strictly medical perspective, what occurs is an unnecessary surgical intervention, often performed with primitive tools and without any safety standards. The result? Bleeding, infections, psychological trauma, sexual dysfunction, and complications that may follow a woman throughout her entire life.

What logic permits inflicting such harm on a child, merely to satisfy a social illusion?

Complicity in the Crime

What is more dangerous than the act itself is the silence surrounding it. Anyone who justifies, ignores, or participates in this practice is a partner in the crime. Yes—a crime. Because silence grants permission for the pain to continue.

The painful paradox is that some who practice or defend it are educated individuals—even healthcare providers. At that point, the tragedy becomes not only a betrayal of humanity, but a betrayal of the medical profession itself.

It Is Time to Confront

We cannot build healthy societies while we begin our girls’ lives with such violence. We cannot speak of women’s empowerment while stripping them of their most basic right—the right to their own bodies.

This is not merely a battle against a tradition, but against a mindset that sanctifies pain and justifies oppression. It is a battle that must be fought with clarity, without compromise, and without fear of confronting inherited norms.

Change the Name… Change the Reality

When we say “circumcision,” we soften and conceal the crime. But when we say “female genital mutilation,” we place the truth where it belongs.

This is not a matter of terminology… it is a moral stance.
